We all have genes for making penises and genes for making uteruses, regardless of our sex. (‘ Sex’ is correct, by the way, not ‘gender’. Gender is a grammatical technical term, applied to words not creatures. In German, a girl’s gender is neuter but her sex female. Amerindian languages typically have two genders, animate and inanimate. The association of gender with sex in some groups of languages is incidental. It is quite a good joke that the politically inspired euphemism—saying gender when you mean sex—is consequently a piece of Western imperialism.)
